House Rules
Dear visitors,
the Museum Barberini takes care of unique works of art.
The management of the museums of the Hasso Plattner Foundation exercises the domiciliary rights on the grounds and in the buildings of the museums. In addition, the management may delegate the exercise of domiciliary rights to other persons authorized to do so. Our supervisory staff is required to ensure that the rules are observed. Please therefore comply with any instructions to be considerate. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact the Barberini team: info@museum-barberini.de, T +49 331 236014-399.
Visitors may be refused entry if there are reasonable grounds for believing that they are disturbing the operation of the museum or causing a nuisance to other visitors. Admission may also be denied if visitors have violated these house rules. A ban will be issued and communicated in writing. This applies both to visits to exhibitions and to events held on the premises of the Hasso Plattner Foundation museums. A written request with reasons is required for the lifting of the house ban.
We are delighted by your interest in the details of our works of art. In order to protect the works, we ask you to maintain a safe distance of 80 cm from the exhibition objects. Crossing the black line on the floor will trigger a safety alarm and an acoustic signal. The exhibited works of art must not be touched. For their protection, all indoor and outdoor spaces are under video surveillance.
Backpacks, bags, and outdoor clothing such as jackets pose a security risk due to their unmanageability, among other things. Please hand them in at our free checkroom or use the lockers. We ask that you either keep your sweaters or cardigans on, turn them in, or tie them around your shoulders while visiting the exhibitions. Also, umbrellas, canes, bicycle helmets, and similar items may not be carried into the exhibition rooms. To carry personal items, please use bags available free of charge at the checkroom. Walking aids may of course be used.
No liability can be assumed for the checkroom. If, exceptionally and for a comprehensible reason, items or articles of clothing cannot be handed in, we reserve the right to inspect them.
Photography or filming may be prohibited due to stipulations made by lenders of artworks. In this case, we request you to comply with corresponding signs. Otherwise, photography and filming, without the use of flash and aids such as e.g. tripods and selfie sticks, is permitted for private purposes. However, we point out that publication on the internet or on social media does not represent private use and may be an infringement of copyright law. If you wish to take photographs or make films for professional or commercial purposes, you will require written permission from the Museum Barberini. Requests may be addressed by email to: presse@museum-barberini.de.
Please set your mobile phone to silent mode while you are in the building and do not use it to make phone calls to ensure that all our visitors can enjoy a relaxing visit. If you need to make a phone call, you can do so in the service area in the basement, or in the foyer.
Animals are not permitted in the museum premises except for service animals. Dogs must be kept on the lead in the outdoor area.
The operation of the museum may require exhibition rooms to close temporarily. We ask for your understanding and will make every effort to announce such closures as early as possible.
The entire building is accessible for people with disabilities. On request we shall be glad to loan you a wheelchair.
We see it as one of our tasks to introduce even the youngest members of society to art. Prams and buggies are welcome provided that the exhibition is not currently too crowded. On request we shall be glad to loan you a buggy.
We are delighted to welcome your children to the museum! However, please bear in mind that children are usually not very familiar with the security requirements of a museum. We therefore ask you to not leave your children under the age of 12 unattended. When you are in the exhibition rooms, please do not carry your child on your back or shoulders. If necessary, please carry your child in your arms in front of your body.
Snacks and beverages may not be brought into the exhibition rooms. You are welcome to eat and drink in the service area in the basement and to visit our catering facilities.
Writing and drawing is permitted in the exhibition rooms only with pencils and crayons.
Smoking is prohibited throughout the entire museum building.
In case of fire or other dangerous situations, you must leave the museum immediately through the marked exits. There will be no checkroom issue in these cases. The instructions of the security staff or other persons assigned by the management of the museums of the Hasso Plattner Foundation for the escape of guests must be followed without fail.
