From Sonia Delaunay to Bridget Riley. The Female Artists of Geometric Abstraction
Fri, May 9, 7 p.m.
Clear lines, powerful forms - geometric abstraction has had a decisive influence on modern art. However, many of the female artists who helped develop and shape this style have long remained in the shadow of their male colleagues. This event focuses on their works: precise, experimental, often uncompromising. We take a look at their stories, their ideas and the questions that their art still raises today - a conversation about space, structure, identity and the possibilities of abstraction.
Sterre Barentsen, curator of the exhibition Kandinsky's Universe, presents the female protagonists of Geometric Abstraction and the iconographic diversity of their works in conversation with WELTKUNST editor-in-chief Lisa Zeitz.
