What Pictures Do to Us. Neuroaesthetics and Kandinsky's psychological Legacy
Thu, May 1, 7 p.m.
Why does art move us – and what does it reveal about ourselves? This event explores these questions through the works of Kandinsky.
Even today, his art continues to resonate deeply – emotionally, deeply, sometimes mysteriously. Professor Joerg Fingerhut will provide fascinating insights from his current research. He is a philosopher and cognitive scientist at the Arts and Minds Lab of the Berlin School of Mind and Brain, focusing on how art shapes our thinking, emotions, and perception of the world. His work demonstrates how art can transform us – offering new perspectives, strengthening empathy, and influencing our connection to the world. In conversation with Sterre Barentsen, curator of the exhibition Kandinsky's Universe, the connections between neuroscience and art are explored in an exciting way.
