Holland in Potsdam
The Dutch Quarter in Potsdam is world-famous—but the influence of the Netherlands in Potsdam goes much further.
Monet's Zaandam paintings, the 7,500 tiles in Caputh, the garden terrace in Sanssouci Park - there is a great variety of exciting references to the Netherlands to discover in Potsdam. The city tour Holland in Potsdam leads as an audio guide of the free Barberini App to 20 different places that show Dutch influences.
The point of departure for the audio guide was the exhibition Clouds and Light: Impressionism in Holland, on view at the Museum Barberini from July 8 to October 22. The exhibition brought together around a hundred masterpieces by forty artists including Johan Barthold Jongkind, Vincent van Gogh, Jacoba van Heemskerck, and Piet Mondrian.
The audio contributions were created in cooperation with over twenty cultural institutions in Potsdam, including the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation, the Potsdam Museum, Jan Bouman House, Lindenstraße Memorial Foundation, Filmmuseum, Berlin-Brandenburg Mill Association, Friends of the Stern Hunting Lodge, and the Liebermann Villa on the Wannsee. You can already discover some of the stops here on the website. To hear the whole tour, simply download the free Barberini App.
On the initiative of the Museum Barberini and the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation, the partners will celebrate the theme year Holland in Potsdam in 2023, which will focus on Potsdam's various connections to the Netherlands in exhibitions, events, and activities until late fall - from tulip festival to migration, from fine art to gardening. The program is accompanied by the blog Holland in Potsdam, where articles, videos, and photo spreads on contemporary and historical topics are published weekly.
Like the audio tours Italy in Potsdam and France in Potsdam, the city tour is permanently available on the free Barberini App and also published as a Small Art Guide in the series of publications of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation.
