Wolfgang Joop on the Roman Baroque Period
“We have art in order not to die of the truth,” said Wolfgang Joop in a reference to the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Joop, one of the most successful fashion designers in Germany, a native Potsdamer, and a passionate art lover, looks at Old Master paintings with the gaze of a sensitive and creative person, in search of inspiration and balance. In August 2019, using the works in the exhibition Baroque Pathways, he spoke with Lisa Zeitz, editor-in-chief of the magazine Weltkunst, about how Baroque art can still touch us in spite of its often dark and religious content.
